Every new home, unit, multi-residential project or major home renovation requires at least a 6 out of 10 star energy efficiency rating in order to comply with the Building Code of Australia.
Each new home or major renovation requires a NatHERS assessment to be undertaken by an accredited assessor. NatHERS (the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme) supports the Federal Government initiative to reduce the reliance on artificial heating and cooling. The objective is to reduce the energy and greenhouse gas impact of residential buildings. The added benefit for the householder is – the higher the energy efficiency rating, the greater the saving on energy bills.
The Building Code of Australia requires a minimum 6 out of 10 star energy efficiency rating for every new residential house, unit or apartment, or major renovation (i.e. where the existing floor size of a residential dwelling increases by 50 per cent or greater).
